Nigel Jones is a transatlantic defense investment and strategic advisory leader with more than 35 years of combined experience across military service, principal investing, investment banking, and executive leadership in aerospace, defense, federal technology, communications, and cybersecurity. For the past three years, he has been based in Athens, Greece, where he advises European defense companies and government stakeholders on accessing U.S. capital markets, private equity, venture investors, and strategic corporate partners. He also serves as a Senior Advisor to a U.S.-based investment bank, supporting capital raising and M&A advisory mandates for emerging growth defense technology companies.
Mr. Jones brings a rare combination of Tier-1 Wall Street investment banking credentials, global private equity leadership, venture capital partnership experience, CEO-level operational execution, and U.S. military special operations background. His career spans 27 years in investment banking, private equity, and venture capital, complemented by eight years of executive operating experience.
He spent seven years at The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s leading global private equity firms, where he focused on leveraged buyouts in the Aerospace & Defense and Federal Technical Services sectors. He subsequently served for thirteen years as a Partner at a family investment platform leading venture and growth investments primarily in communications technology, cybersecurity, secure mobility, and defense-enabling software architectures. Mr. Jones began his civilian career as an original member of the Technology Investment Banking Group at Goldman Sachs & Co., advising high-growth technology companies on IPOs, strategic M&A transactions, and institutional capital formation.
In addition to his investment career, Mr. Jones served as Chief Executive Officer of a secure mobile communications company serving U.S. and allied defense and government customers. He led the company’s strategic transformation from a hardware-centric model to scalable software architecture, built a global sales and business development organization, expanded sovereign customer relationships, and positioned the company for long-term international growth.
Commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in 1992, Mr. Jones served with the Marines’ Special Operations Capable forces. He earned elite qualifications as a Marine Combatant Diver and military parachutist. His military service provides deep operational understanding of defense missions, procurement environments, and warfighter requirements, which continues to inform his advisory and investment work today.
Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and his Master of Business Administration from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Now based in Athens, he operates at the intersection of U.S.–Europe defense industrial cooperation, cross-border capital formation, strategic M&A, and sovereign-aligned growth strategy, positioning defense and technology companies for transatlantic expansion and institutional investment.
