Speaker Bio

Mara Zaharea is the first female journalist to become a news director on Greek private television and for years she has been a news anchor and political editor. She is a graduate of the Economics Department of the Athens Law School. She holds a Master's degree in Journalism from the City University of London. During her postgraduate studies she worked for the BBC. On her return to Greece she worked as an economic and political editor for the newspapers "Proti", "Eleftheros Typos", "Epikerotita" and "Ethnos tis Kyriaki" and on the radio "902 FM". From 1992 she worked as a political editor for the "Mega Channel" television, where she later presented the main news bulletin and a weekly news programme ("42 minutes"). She then worked with "Alpha" television, where she presented the main news bulletin and the radio station "Diesis". In 2009 she organised and managed the website "Star.gr". Since September 2013 she has been presenting the main newscast of "Star channel" and since 2017 she has been the news director of the same channel. She speaks English and French. She is married to Theodoros Roussopoulos who is now the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and they have two children, Vassilis a political scientist and Anna a graphic designer.
