Katerina Fountedaki was admitted to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Law School after ranking first in the national examinations and graduated first. She was appointed lecturer in Civil Law at the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2000 and has been a Full Professor since March 2013.
Her main areas of academic and research activity are medical law and professional liability, medically assisted reproduction, compensation law, torts, protection of personality rights, bioethics and family law, which she teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as property law and general principles of civil law.
Author of the following books: “Illegal Adoption” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 1993; “Adoption. Conditions, Procedure, Nullification” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 1998; “Medical civil liability. General Introduction, Dogmatic and Political Approach, Essential Notions” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 2003; exp. 2nd fully revised and updated edition in 2023; “The parental responsibility cases in Regulation 2201/2003” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 2004; “Adoption. Law 2447/1996, its reforms and application” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 2010; “Human Reproduction and Medical Civil Liability” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 2007; “Person and Personality in the Civil Code” (in Greek), Thessaloniki, 2012; “Lessons of Medical Liability”, Athens 2018; The new legislation on the relations between parents and children (2021); “Medical civil liability” (in cooperation with M.Gerasopoulou and D.Maroudas) (2023). -of 6 extended participations in collective works. -of more than 125 articles/ studies/ expert opinions/ notes on court decisions with more than 2,000 citations. She has more than 158 presentations in colloquies, conferences and seminars (Greek and International, legal, medical and interdisciplinary).
She has participated in nine legislative committees in Greece, the European Union, and the Council of Europe, focusing on family law. Among other, Member of the Special Legislative Committee responsible for drafting a bill to reform family law, which proposed Law 4356/2015 (new civil partnership), Member of the Special Legislative Committee for drafting a bill for the legislation on gender identity recognition, which proposed Law 4491/2017. Member of the Special Legislative Committee of the Ministry of Justice for the amendment of family law (Law 4800/2021), Member and main drafter of the working group that proposed Equality in Civil Marriage (Law 5089/2024).
She is Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Medical Law and Bioethics of Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and President of the Association of Civilists -Greece. She has been a member of the Evaluation and Certification Council of the National Authority for Higher Education (EΘΑΑΕ) for the field of Legal and Political Sciences, Vice Dean of the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Deputy Chair of the National Authority for Medically Assisted Reproduction, member of the Board of Directors of the School of Judges, and Secretary of the Family Law Association. She is a lawyer at the Supreme Court, a member of the Thessaloniki Bar Association (Fountedakis Law Offices) and of counsel at the law firm Tsibanoulis & Partners of Athens.
She is proficient in French and English and has a very good knowledge of Spanish and German.
