Speaker Bio

Lilian Venetia Vildiridi is an economist specializing in health policy, planning, and financing. She holds a BSc in Social Policy and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and an MSc in Health Policy, Planning, and Financing from LSE and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She is currently pursuing a PhD at the School of Health Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Ms. Vildiridi has held roles within the Ministry of Health, including serving as Office Director to the Alternate Minister of Health, Mina Gaga (February 2022 – May 2023), and to the acting Minister of Health, Anastasia Kotanidou (June 2023). She has also served as an advisor to Alternate Minister Mina Gaga (September 2021 – January 2022) and Alternate Minister of Health Vassilis Kontozamanis (July 2019 – August 2021). Since July 2023, she has been serving as Secretary General for Health Services at the Hellenic Ministry of Health. In this role, she has been involved in the implementation of reforms in the hospital sector, including health workforce planning, the upgrading of hospital infrastructure, and the reorganisation of hospital and emergency care services. Her work also includes strengthening quality of care and performance monitoring in public hospitals, with a focus on improving service delivery, patient experience, and system efficiency. In 2020, she was appointed as Greece’s representative to the European Commission Steering Committee for the joint procurement of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. She currently serves as Greece’s National Representative to the European Commission Expert Group on Health System Performance Assessment (HSPA) and as national delegate to the OECD Health Committee and its working parties, including Health Statistics, Health Care Quality and Outcomes, and the Patient-Reported Indicator Survey (PaRIS). She is also a member of the OECD Health Data National Correspondents and Health Accounts Experts. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Research Associate at the LSE Health and Social Care Research Centre. Her research focuses on health system performance assessment and human resource management in healthcare, including regulation, access to care, quality, financing, and patient outcomes. She has published research in international journals on healthcare policy.
