Dimitris Kontos is the Chief Operating Officer of METRO AEBE, one of Greece’s leading retail groups, operating the My market supermarket chain and METRO Cash & Carry wholesale network. With more than 20 years of experience in retail, finance, operations, and corporate governance, he has held senior leadership roles primarily in Greece, as well as in Germany and Austria. His career combines deep operational retail expertise with strong financial and organizational governance foundations. Since joining METRO in 2016, he has led major transformation initiatives across sales operations, commercial strategy, process optimization, and digital enablement. He has previously served as Director of Retail Sales (My market), Buying Director Non-Food, Director of Sales Operations, and IT Process Director, contributing significantly to operational excellence, margin management, and organizational restructuring in a highly competitive sector. Prior to METRO, he held senior leadership roles at Veropoulos SPAR Hellas, where he served as Internal Audit & IT Director, overseeing internal control, credit control, and IT functions, and driving cost optimization and process automation initiatives. He also held key positions within the ALDI Group in Germany, Austria, and Greece, including Director of Central Accounting and Tax Services and Area Manager Sales. In these roles, he led accounting and financial reporting functions for multiple group entities. His professional background combines large-scale retail operations management, financial governance, commercial strategy and margin optimization, digital transformation, process redesign, and organizational restructuring. Dimitris Kontos holds an M.A. in Finance and Investment from the University of Exeter (UK) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).
