Filippos Sachinidis was born in 1963 in Canada. He studied Economics at the University of Piraeus. He holds an MA from Queens College, CUNY, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester. He taught economics at the Manchester School of Management. He worked as a researcher at the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), as Special Advisor at the Economic Office of Prime Minister K. Simitis, and as Senior Economist in the Economic Analysis Division of the National Bank of Greece. He has authored publications and has published articles in academic journals and edited volumes. He is the Scientific Council Coordinator at Progressive Lab. In 2007, he was elected Member of Parliament for the Larissa constituency with PASOK. He was re-elected in the elections of 2009, May 2012, and June 2012. In October 2009, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in the PASOK government under Prime Minister G. Papandreou. In June 2011, he became Alternate Minister of Finance, a position he retained in the government of Prime Minister L. Papademos. In March 2012, he was appointed Minister of Finance.
