Evangelos Kanoulas is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Amsterdam, where he leads the Information Retrieval Lab and serves as Director of the MSc in Artificial Intelligence. His work focuses on Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on the development, evaluation, and societal impact of advanced and agentic AI systems. He is an ELLIS Fellow and has held research roles at Google, Microsoft, and Huawei, contributing to large-scale search and AI systems. He has advised the Dutch government through expert committees on the application of AI in healthcare and on the impact of AI on democracy and elections. Evangelos is a co-founder of Ellogon.AI, which applies AI to personalized cancer immunotherapy, and LYDS.AI, which develops generative AI systems for the creative industry.
