Dr. Christoph Marschall von Bieberstein is Chief Diplomatic Correspondent of “Der Tagesspiegel”, the leading daily in Berlin, and a frequent guest on TV and radio shows. His expertise includes International Relations, Great Power Competition, the European Union with special regard to Central Eastern Europe, US Politics and Transatlantic Relations. Since 2005 he served as US Correspondent and member of the White House Press Corps under four Presidents: George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Joe Biden and Trump again. He was a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center 2024-2025 and at the German Marshall Fund of the US 2017-2018, both times based in Washington DC.
His recent book focuses on the risk of war at the Eastern flank of NATO: “Black Tuesday. Why a war with Russia is imminent and how the German government can avoid it”. Born October 8, 1959 in Freiburg, he studied East European History and Political Science in Freiburg, Mainz and Cracow (Poland), concluding with a PhD on Polish history in 1988 at Freiburg University. In 1989/90 he covered the peaceful regime changes in Central Eastern Europe for “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. Since 1991 he works for "Der Tagesspiegel", Berlin, first in the newsroom and 1995 to 2005 as Editorial Page Editor.
