Victoria Hislop is a graduate of Oxford University and the multi-million copy bestselling author of ten novels, including The Island. Her books have been translated into forty languages and she was executive producer for television adaptations of several of her novels for Greek television, including The Island.
Victoria is an honorary Greek citizen and divides her time between England and Greece. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and holds Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of Patra and Sheffield. She was awarded the Byron Medal for Philhellenism at the Athens Academy in 2025 and became the first woman to become an honorary member of the Εθνική Εταιρεία των Ελλήνων Λογοτεχνών (Society of Greek Writers).
Victoria is on the British Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles and on the Advisory Board for the Parthenon Project.
Since publication of The Island in 2006, she has also been Ambassador for Lepra helping to raise awareness and funding for the treatment of leprosy patients worldwide.
