Professorial Research Fellow and Director of the Hellenic Observatory, London School of Economics.  He was previously the Eleftherios Venizelos Professor of Contemporary Greek Studies until 2022. In 2021 has was bestowed the award of 'Grand Commander, Order of the Phoenix' of the Hellenic Republic. 

In 2023, he was made an Honorary Citizen of the Hellenic Republic. He has held visiting posts at the University of Minnesota, NYU, Harvard, and the European University Institute. He has written extensively on EU politics and on Greece and is a frequent contributor to international media.
